Dressers for Christmas

We recently finish a dresser just in time for Christmas.  It was in bad shape and had several layers of paints on it.  Not to mention the drawers didn't work very well.  Turns out under all of that old paint was beautiful wood.

1950's Style balsa wood surfboard

Here at the shop we get ourselves into all sorts of the different projects. Our main focus  is repairing and restoring furniture but sometimes we branch out.  Whether it be making furniture, restoring old cars, or shaping surfboards it all helps us keep our craftsman skills sharp.  Here is a solid Balsa wood surfboard with a Hawaiian Koa wood fin/skeg.  It weighs about 50lbs. and is surfed frequently.  If you are interested in a balsa board let us know.

antique radio

Here is an antique radio we just finished.  The top was in pretty bad shape, so we had to refinish the top and restored the base.  The grain really shines now the the finish is cleaned up.

Tree Slab Tables

A client brought in a couple of Tree Slab Tables.  The wood has a really
nice grain pattern, so at first I wan't too sure about the Silver/Grey.
I think they turned out pretty cool though.  The have a rustic
modern feel to them.

Clamps!

Sergio working on setting a new record for most clamps used on a single chair.
The entire chair was loose.  It was a difficult repair.  We have to
be very careful to get the chair tight but not break the curved arms.

We Offer Storage

We have 3,000 square feet of storage available.
If you have disaster such as a flood or fire and need your furniture
stored while your house is being rebuilt, give us a call.
Whether we are working on the pieces or not.  We like
to get the furniture out of the house as quickly as possible and
then keep it until the carpet and paint are done. This way futher
damage is avoided during the construction.  We offer reasonable
rates and your furniture will be guarded during the day by the
trusty Cocker Spaniel Chuey.  Don't let the sleepy eyes fool you, he is
ready for action.

Harps!

Every Couple of month we get a batch of harps from
Italian made Salvi Harps.  They are very beautiful harps with
the higher end harps having intricate gold paintings.
Sometimes they get damaged in shipping or while being played
and we get the call to touch them up. It is fun
to work on something unique and different but they
usually have a very flat finish which makes the
touch ups difficult.

Odd Pieces

We get some odd pieces coming into the shop.  The pieces below came from a large prop warehouse in Hollywood that caught on fire.  We've had row boats, metal heaters, and billows stacked up in every nook and cranny of the shop.

Daybed

A customer brought in daybed the was completely falling apart.  It looked like a heap of wood and fabric setting on the shop floor.  The Decrative fencing on the back was covered in fabric. The customer was really suprised when we found it.  Here is an in process shot and the finished product.  Oh yeah, we do upholstery also.

Into the Abyss

Headed into a bit of fog on our way to a delivery in Palm Springs.

Meet Chuey

Here is our trusty shop dog Chuey.  Our Shop Manager Sergio rescued him from the pound and brings him into work everyday.  If he had his way, we would just play ball all day.
He does a good job keeping meetings on track
Sometimes he dresses up for work.
But most of the time he just sleeps until break time

Cedar Hope Chest

Here are the before and after shots of a hope chest the customer purchased when she was a young girl over 55 years ago.  It has been sitting in a shed for a very long time.  Notice the loose veneer and water damage.

After shot.  The customer choose the color and sheen.
